Sonja Runs For A Cure!!!
Hey Everyone! Please sign my guestbook! I want to know you were here.
Well, I felt like I didn't have enough to do already; so I have decided to run a 26.2 mile marathon! And no, I have not lost my mind! I will be running with hundreds of other Floridians and thousands from around the world, as part or the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team in Training (TNT), an endurance training program. As a member I will be training fro 5 month. My goal to complete the 26.2 miles is only my physical commitment. My most important goal is to raise money to help find a cure for Leukemia and other related diseases. Leukemia is the #1 killer of children between the ages of 1 and 15, and it will take the lives of more than 50,000 Americans this year alone. I am running in honor of Alex Gufford, an 8-year-old boy. Alex lives in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and suffers from Acute Lymphocitic Leukemia (ALL)-High Risk T-Cell. All is the most common form of Leukemia found in children. The good news is that the overall cure rate for ALL patients is 80%. 15 years ago it was 4%. Alex is currently half way through his 3 year treatment, and is one of the cutest and high spirited kids I have ever met. I will wear a bracelet (throughout all of the training and the event it self) with Alex's name on it. I will wear it in his honor, because I know he will inspire me to continue on and face the Saturday morning trainings at 4:30 am (yes, that early!!!) with a smile. I will run every mile for him! |
